but if you like the summerlike temperatures in october you got it. look at the start, a lot of sunshine, the horizon is bright. the winds are calm. no rain in the forecast for the weekend and then things change. so if timing means anything, the weekend will be spectacular. it will be. and then things change on monday. our forecast today up to around 86 degrees. about 15 degrees above our normal high. fog out there, that will burn opquickly. partly cloudy skies and warm. tonight's lows in the middle 60s. the exclusive eye witness news first warning five-day forecast is coming up. and talk about tropical storm karen. >> all right. thank you, tim. first, here's what people are talking about today. the family of the woman shot and killed after she led police on a wild chase from the white house to the capitol hill. is speaking out. they are addressing questions about her mental state and the use of deadly force by washington, d.c. police.

danielle nottingham has the latest for wjz eyewitness news from washington. >> we are still absorbing all of the things that are happening. >> amy and valerie carey don't know why their sister, miriam carey, drove her young daughter to washington, d.c. amp trip that ended with a wild chase from the white house to the capitol hill, and miriam carey shot dead by police. >> she did suffer from postpartum depression with psychosis. >> reporter: law enforcement sources tell wjz eyewitness news 90 months before miriam carey rammed her car into the white house barricade, she told connecticut police president barack obama had put her home under electronic civilians and that she was communicating with him. her sister, valerie disagreed. >> to my knowledge, she did not believe that the president or any government official was going to do her any harm. >> reporter: miriam carey was not armed when she led police on a high-speed chase. her 1-year-old daughter was in the backseat. police are saying that they opened fire on miriam carey

because she was using her car as a weapon. valerie carey a former new york city police officer, questions washington, d.c. protocol. >> there was no need for a gun to be used when there was no gunfire coming from the vehicle. >> the sisters are saying they are seeking custody of miriam carey's young daughter who is in protalkative custody. >> my niece has lost her mother. >> investigators want to know, too. in washington, danielle nottingham. wjz eyewitness news. >> meanwhile, police searched miriam carey's apartment for 12 hours. first using a robot, and then took several items. a man is in critical condition this morning after police are saying he lit himself on fire on the national mall in washington. it happened yesterday afternoon around the 7th street area. you can see what appears to be smoke. a witness says that she saw the unidentified man dump a red

canister of gas on his head, struck a match, and lit himself on fire. officers and jogger put the flames. a medevac flew the man to the hospital. a major drug operation run out of the home of a daycare. police found drugs and guns inside of the howard county house. this morning the owner is facing serious charges. meghan mccorkell explains how the operation stayed such a secret. >> good morning. police say an anonymous tip led them to the daycare center and they found a sophisticated mare won grow operation. the the past year parents have dropped their children off at this home, a licensed daycare center, but it is what police are saying 31-year-old david anderson built underneath the house that has neighbors in shock. >> we had no idea. >> reporter: a secret room, investigators was specifically built to grow marijuana.

>> it was clear to our detectives, this was a large scale operation. >> reporter: that room had special insulation, an elect trackroom electrical system,lysing and a ventilation system to mask the order. during the raid, detectives found baggies of drugs all over the house. >> we were concerned when we executed a search warrant that house and found loaded weapons and ammunition as well. >> and they found multiple firearms inside of this backyard shed. the same backyard where the daycare children played. >> if one had the kid husband gone over there and found the guns. >> reporter: neighbors are saying they can't believe this was happening here. >> concerned. these are young families and nice people. it is scary. >> reporter: david anderson is charged with manufacturing, production and distribution of marijuana. anderson is likely to face more charges. he was released on $35,000

bond. meghan mccorkell, wjz eyewitness news. >> police are saying the daycare center is licensed to anderson fiance, it has been suspended. a two car crash in anne arundel county kills a woman and injuries two others. it happened on route 3. sky eye chopper 13 was over the scene. police are saying the 73-year- old tried to merge. when he car collided with an suv. medics are saying that she died at the scene. the driver and the passenger in the other car are expected today recover, according to doctors. it is day five of the government shutdown this morning. the impact on maryland is worse. on capitol hill yesterday, president barack obama said that he wants a temporary spending bill on his desk with no strings attached. and house speaker, john boehner, pointed the finger at senate democrats and the white house. back here, lockheed martin is set to furlough 3,000 workers on monday. a cell phone crack down,

city police target drivers not following the state's new cell phone laws. officers set up a checkpoint at harford road, and pulling over drivers with cell phones to their ears. and looked for passengers in the backseat not wearing seatbelts. this is the first of many more check points to come. the raveps are facing a lot of questions this week following their lost to buffalo. the team heads to miami. as sports director mark viviano explains, the answers to the questions may take time to develop. >> reporter: good morning. week to week it is hard to predict what ravens team will we see in miami on sunday. the team admits they are a work in progress. part of the ravens' preparation for miami is talk of an attitude adjustment, especially for the ravens run game. their identify on -- identity on offense is to run the ball. , but they have not been able to do it so far. >> it is that much respect for

states of emergency. >> we will talk about at the next break, how emergency workers will have to deal with that. many of them will be furloughed because of the shutdown. >> right. of course, we get a lot of our information from the national weather service, a lot of government agencies. we will do our best to keep your posted. fortunately, we are not expecting major impacts from the storm. really here we are getting needed rain, that's what we'll get from the storm system. that's a good thing. we will get all of the tropical moisture, we are 3 1/2 inches of rain down, this storm will bring the level up. we don't have the problems that a tropical storm karen can bring. no flooding and that kind of thing. just the rain. right now, no rain out there. a gorgeous start to this saturday. it is a really beautiful day. if you are taught been out yet, maybe this is a good morning, tooth take a walk. >> a jog. >> yeah. really. temperatures in the 60s. sun is just coming up at 7:07 now and the temperatures have been around 77 degrees.

so sunshine, clear skies. lower humidity, as we headed into this weekend. the humidity levels will go up a little bit, but that adds to the supper time feel. right now, 70 degrees is our temperature. it is just a mild start to the day. 63 is the dew point. all right. so it has gone down just a little bit. so the temperature and the dew point are very close. that gives you the moisture out there, that adds to the relative humidity. so not quite as dry, but still very, very comfortable as we head into the saturday. calm winds. winds are calm at the airport, but we do see a bit of a south flow around hagerstown. a north wind, so, i guess that you call that a variable wind

around the state. what we're watching here several things. give to you at one time. there is a warm front that is moving across the area. that's the system that you see dropped across southern new york and new england. high pressure in control that is dominating the forecast. be a flow, a clockwise flow around the high that is pushing warm air into the region. here is tropical storm karen and -- expected to, the path is expected to take along the coastline. here is the cold front just moving into the area. the way that it all plays out. we say in the warn air for a while. the cold front moves in. it picks up the moisture from karen and brings it in and out of the area. so what we will be watching is the landfall from karen tonight and tomorrow morning. the moves across the north carolina and south carolina. it is a tropical storm, minimal, 40 miles per hour. it is coming in our direction. it picks up the moisture on monday. brings the rain in our general direction and then it moves out

of here. and then by wednesday that is moving out of here and the rain is tapering and start to see improvement heading into the middle and end of the week. we are looking at 86 degrees today. sunshine and blue sky out there. 64 degrees tonight. mostly sunny. and them for tomorrow, 86. humid, but, again with a mixture of clouds and sun. 80 on monday with the rain. 73, 72, and 70. the front moves out. it takes karen with it. the temperatures drop, back down to normal highs on thursday. temperatures around 70 degrees. >> it this an indian summer. >> not yet. we need a frost first. >> all right. still ahead on eyewitness news saturday morning -- ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

ditch. frightening moments for baltimore county parents who arrived on green spring avenue to find their child's school bus off of the road, overturned, facing the wrong way in a creek. >> i can't imagine the fear of the pairs when the parents came to pickup their kids from the accident. >> reporter: baltimore county police are saying the bus was carrying ten middle school students when it lost control, veered off the road and crashed it into ditch. >> it is right up on the hill. when one wheel goes off, it pulls you off. >> reporter: inside the students were tossed around. with the main door facing the sky, everyone expected through a back roof hatch. five kids and the driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. >> if everyone was mobile and able to get off of the bus. >> the skid marks on the road and the crash on the side shows the path. you can see how deep the ditch really is. >> it is really miraculous that that we did -- we didn't have

significant injuries. >> reporter: investigators are looking into the cause of the accident. that will take time. one thing is clear, that the students were lucky. >> it is terrifying. no seatbelts on the bus. >> reporter: district leaders are saying the driver of the school bus will be tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure. monique griego, wjz eyewitness news. >> police and baltimore county school leaders are both investigating what happened in the wreck. family members and friends will say good-bye today to a woman killed in a fiery car crash last month. fineeral services will be held this morning for angel. she was one of three people killed in northeast baltimore during the pursuit of a police september. the funeral is set the beginning at 10:00 a.m. this case is still under investigation. the government shutdown continues this morning, its impacts on maryland is becoming worse. the president wants a temporary

the time. >> so when wins today. >> well, if you want summer weather. you win. >> you win you want summer weather. >> i do. >> all right. it is hard to argue, this is probably one of the best weekends, as october weekends go. i was going to say august. but as october weekends go. this is an absolutely fumominal weekend. the temperatures in the mid- 80s. no rain, a good bit of sun. a nice delightful start to the week. 67 out there, the dew point is at 62. a little bit of fog and moisture because the temperature and dew point is so close. 83% humidity. with calm winds. around the state, temperature range 61 in oakland, that has came up. one of the lower spots on the map. 70 in rock hall. 60 in annapolis. winds are calm across central maryland, but we have a bit of

a south flow. variable wind around the area where it is actually blowing. here is what is going on, we will bring you into the picture here. high pressure is dominating the forecast. down around the north carolina and south carolina on the georgia line. it is the clockwise flow that continues to bring in the warm air up into the region. the temperatures into the 80s. here is the line this is distinguishing where tropical storm karen will follow on monday and tuesday. there is a cold front to the west that will move into the region and interact with karen, helping it it to move up and into the region. that's what is going on. the cold front will bring a good bit of rain and act as a lifting mexico. in. here is tropical storm karen after a minimum tropical storm at 40 miles per h hour. it will start to move into the region. as it does, it will pickup

speed. the cold front will get ahold of it. that is on monday. we will start to see the leading edge of the rain moving in. all of the models have it moving into our region. we're going to see the rain. not the destruction that a tropical storm can bring, but a few inches of rain. after the front moves it out of here. the temperatures drop and back down to normal conditions. the temperatures in the low 70s. so enjoy the weekend. our sunset is at 6:41. the west wind on the bay. no advisories in effect. looking at another nice day. 86 degrees. partly sunny and warm. the lows going down to 64 degrees. mostly sunny and warm as well. then for tomorrow, 86. then here comes the rain on monday, tuesday and wednesday. 80. dropping down to 73. down to 72. down to 70. and overnight lows from the 60s

one of the bikers was seriously injured after being runover by the driver of the suv. police have not charged the driver. his wife issued a statement. it is a space aged cheata. it can move. the fastest 4 legged robut ever, reaching 16 miles per hour in the field test. look at this thing. it is a bounding and galloping gait of the cheetah. it can also make turns and spot on a dime. >> it doesn't look like a cheetah. >> no, that's too space aged for me. >> call me crazy. width, fighting to stop diabetes one step at a time. thousands are lacing up their walking shoes this morning and gearing up for the step out walk to stop diabetes. >> wjz eyewitness news is live at the inner harbor. we are finding kathy rogers the

executive director of the america diabetes association for maryland. >> all right. kathy, how does the money raise help specifically? >> it goes towards three things. one is research. we're looking for a cure for type i diabetes and better management of diabetes. and also community education. a lot of people in the baltimore area that are affected by diabetes we work hard in the community to get the information out and gave people the right support and prevention for diabetes. give them the right information to manage it better and avoid the deadly complications. we also raise money for advocacy. probably a lot of people don't know that our children with type i, for example, some of them have decryptinated in the school setting. we fight discrimination, to make sure that they're getting equal access to everything.
